about

These six songs serve as the first introduction to Textbook Traitors' unique and characteristically regional take on a then-rapidly emerging sonic exploration within the hardcore genre later coined "screamo" or "skramz" (largely by those that completely missed the actual era). Contemporaries in their local scene of Milwaukee, Wisconsin included Since By Man and Seven Days of Samsara, while labelmates Pageninetynine, Crestfallen, Corn on Macabre, and Majority Rule operated loosely within the same venues and community circles around the country.

Originally issued in 2002 as a self-released CD, "You Pull The Strings That Make Us Dance" was formally reissued less than a year later via Magic Bullet Records. Exemplifying a strict DIY hardcore/punk ethic, all copies were meticulously hand-screened by the band in Milwaukee.

Rapid-fire, highly volatile, and viscerally explosive, the songs on this album continue to shine on as a time capsule to a youthful, do-it-yourself era within punk that was able to operate entirely autonomous to any form of the music industry writ large.
